With over 334,000 downloads WP Smush.it has become a staple within many WordPress developer circles – it’s an incredible plugin that has helped thousands save space by optimizing images – lossless, by the way. It stripped meta data from jpegs, optimized compression, converted certain gifs to indexed pngs, and even stripped un-used colors from indexed images. Sadly though it seems that it’s time for the original author, Alex Dunae, to move on:

It looks like they’ve created both a theme and an add-on via Pippin Williamson’s plugin Easy Digital Downloads and it might just be amazing. Brad Parbs sent us a note that I thought was neat enough to cover as the Theme Hook Alliance continues to grow it’s influence around the WordPress neighborhood. And besides, he told us that we should share it – and so, we’re sharing it (besides, he’s a “rockstar,” at least via his own website)! Recently he just added all of the hooks from the Alliance into the starter theme, called “_s,” to make everyone happy.
We’ve got some good options for displaying sidebars conditionally: either by coding them or using a plugin. But, I’ve had a few situations with clients where the widgets themselves should be conditional, instead of creating entire sidebars. What are the options? I’ll walk you through six that I came across, and which one I landed on for this client. Remember that the most important thing for me here was to have it work intuitively for them, not me.

It’s Friday! Let the weekend begin! There’s loads of new and updated plugins to share on today’s roundup. One that quickly stood out to me was Bitcoin Payments for WooCommerce. I haven’t personally used Bitcoin as of yet, but it’s something that I try to follow along with WooCommerce. Good stuff! 30 new plugins is quite impressive. Don’t you think?
