Clearly we aren’t using your typical .com or .net or even .org top-level domain. The main reason is quite simple: The others weren’t available.
But we think this is to our advantage since the .co extension seems to fit us better. Culturally, more and more organizations are choosing .co to stand for not just company but also for “community” and “collaboration.”
We think this fits nicely into what we’re trying to do. Sure, we’re a company as well, but we’re a company of passionate WordPress users. I almost see it as somewhat of a “Band of Brothers” (women welcome too, of course) which is one of my favorite TV series of all time – an intimate group that is on a quest, a mission of sorts, to share the awesomeness that is WordPress.
Sure, call me sentimental but that’s how I’ve been feeling about the WordPress community at large. As a result, the .co extension (which represents the country of Columbia technically speaking) fits us really, really well.
What do you think? Am I reading too much into this or do you get a similar feeling?
