One of the best things about the open source community is that you’re constantly working with a team of people to build something that’s larger than what a single person or small team could do well in such a short amount of time.
This is applicable to plugins, themes, and even WordPress itself.
The challenge, though, is that you may be working with a group of people who you don’t really know beyond the bug tickets they submit, or the issues they resolve.
In a recent blog post, @fat – one of the developers behind Bootstrap said the following in the context of working on the project:
Getting together and creating something with your friends is amazing and for me easily one of the most fun and rewarding things I do. I love it. And that’s why I’ve done it and will continue to do it.
For those of you who have worked on projects with your friends, you know how this feels. For those of you who have yet to partner with others – especially your friends – you’re missing out.
Your Call To Action
Find a friend or two who have a common interest in building something and get started – partner, not pioneer.
The biggest piece of advice I can give is to try to partner with those who are strong in the areas in which you’re weak. Not a developer, but an artist with Photoshop? Partner with a programmer who can put some nice code behind that killer layout.
Whatever this looks like in your world, aim for it because @fat’s right – partnering with your friends to build something neat is awesome.
Would hate for you guys to be missing out :).
