I could have sworn that I’ve seen some “Coming Soon” themes in the .org theme repository but perhaps that was my over-active imagination.
Chip Bennett opened up a conversation about those types of themes coming soon to .org and I think this move makes sense – sure, as Chip noted, it would break the Theme Unit Test on upload since certain features (e.g. comments) wouldn’t be available on said themes, but logistically that could be hammered out:
One suggestion for handling uploads/reviews: rather than having to whitelist Coming Soon Themes in the uploader, perhaps we could add a new tag, e.g. “coming-soon” (or whatever), that the uploader script could check for, and that the Theme Reviewer would note during the review.
I’ve used a handful of these types of 1-pagers and they’ve been very useful to capture interested people via a newsletter system or to build suspense and interest in potential future users.
Do you have anything more to add to the conversation here or is it generally seen as a good thing that these types of themes may be made available shortly pending the whitelisting hiccup?
Have you used Coming Soon pages to spot your un-used or un-finished new projects and domains? Any that you’d care to suggest?
