It’s no secret that our team here loves to play as hard as we work – in fact, philosophically it’s one of the reasons that we founded our company and named it 8BIT – we believed that our greatest work would be done when we saw it as “play” – in other words, we could work in an environment and on products that were just as fun as the entertainment that we loved.
It’s where recreation meets our vocation meets our occupation, in a number of ways.
As a result, we’ve made a lot of decisions based on that rubric and foundation and are hyper-critical of the things that doesn’t really get our blood going.
We work hard and play hard in other words.
One of my life-long dreams has been to have a stand-up arcade game in my office. I remember thumbing through some old comic books when I was in elementary school and seeing a coin-op machine, X-Men, being sold for a measly $12,000 dollars.
I knew that I had to have it. At the time I had no idea about money and no idea how I’d ever get that much cash but I put it aside in my memory banks and swore that I’d be able to do it at some point in time.
Ever since then I’ve been dreaming of the day when I could have one in my possession – that day finally came last week when the team hauled an ungodly-sized cabinet half-way across the city, up three floors, into our office space.
I couldn’t be happier – and it’s the first of many that I hope we acquire over the coming year. Heck, I’d love to have our own little arcade here at WP Daily!

This particular coin-op is running an emulator that was rebuilt within an original case and chassis – this way we have multiple options to choose from in terms of games and can keep it up to date. We’re looking at buying an original retro game that still requires quarters to operate – we’ll have a big jar of them next to it so that people can play.
So much freakin’ fun.
