Do you run a community site or a site where user registration is paramount and important? Then you may want to check out this sweet plugin that passed our desk recently:
Profile Builder is a custom front-end user registration solution from the folks at Cosmoslabs.
It’s a plugin for your WordPress powered blog and comes in one of two options, pro or hobbyist, depending on your needs and your pocketbook.
Profile builder replaces the traditional WordPress login screen because, as Cosmoslabs states on their home page, ‘the default WordPress user registration and login is no good for modern websites.’
Take a look at what they propose as a replacement:
Visually I don’t think this is any better than what WordPress offers as a default. It’s a login screen, who cares what it looks like? I know I don’t.
Now, to be fair, Profile Builder offers more than just the ability to change the aesthetic of the login screen. You can cut down on spam with user e-mail confirmation and reCAPTCHA, create custom redirects, use short-codes and more.
These features, in my opinion, are what really matter and what Profile Builder should be judged on.
Though I don’t need this solution for myself I can see how the features it offers would be beneficial to WordPress sites that have a number of users. The ability to have custom redirects for specific users can definitely improve the ease with which users interact with your site. The question you have to answer is: is Profile Builder worth the price tag?
I know I won’t be dropping $99, or even $49, on Profile Builder. Like I said, it doesn’t fill a need that I have. If, however, you are looking for a different solution for your user registration, Profile Builder might be worth a shot.
Do any of you use Profile Builder now? Be sure to share your thoughts in the comments!
