Envato piqued our interest a little while back when they were sharing that they had a new project lined up for creative services and it’s finally here.
Microlancer, a “fast and affordable” creative services offering is not all that unlike the very popular 99Designs where designers can bid on creative work.
But there are some key differences and the biggest one is that you get to choose the designer or provider before you start developing your creative brief. In other words, you can check out the providers first and then move forward strongly with one in mind.
There are natural benefits of this as you don’t have to worry about managing a “design contest” a’la 99Designs but it also may limit you with the varying different design perspectives that you might have gotten from other spec-work sites.
Now, I imagine that a lot of people will have an opinion about Microlancer and whether this “fast and affordable” service will actually create “good” quality products and designs, just as how many people are ardent backers of such movements as No-Spec, but I personally am fine with such services.
In fact, I grew my own development chops off those types of opportunities back in the day and am very thankful for it.
Let us know your thoughts on Microlancer and how you think it will succeed or fail – and if you have any creative ideas of how to make it even better then I’m sure they’d love to know! And certainly let us know if you are thinking about becoming a provider or using the service as a whole.
