It’s been 90 days, officially. That means my days as an intern at WP Daily are over. What a ride!
It’s hard to sum up what’s happened during that time (although I shared a few here) but here are a few quick thoughts in conclusion:
Pursuit of Love
I’ve learned what it means to pursue something you love on nights and weekends.
This is something that I never would have done before, I had video games to play after all. But now that I’ve put in my time here I know that I can in fact chase my dreams while still working a full time job. This realization has the potential to be a game changer for me.
Criticism
I’ve learned to be OK with criticism or disagreement from the public. I’m the only me on the planet, I don’t need to apologize for that. I’ll learn, I’ll grow and I’ll change as I grow older but I’ve learned from this internship that I need to be the real me, not anybody else’s preferred version of me.
The Forever Student
I’ve learned that I still have much to learn.
I went into this internship really green, not unlike a rookie at spring training. I had to learn procedure, processes, skills, the environment, professionalism and so on from the wily veterans that coached me.
But the only way I’m going to get better is to continue to learn, continue to experiment and continue to make stuff.
And that might be the best thing I’ve learned from my internship, just make stuff. Whatever your focus or skill set, make stuff. Don’t wait until it’s perfect, get it out there now. The more you make stuff the better you’ll get, so start making stuff now and work your butt off to get better at it.
That’s the last you’ll hear from me as an intern.
Tomorrow you’ll hear from me again but as a community author. That’s right, I’m not actually leaving. Though I’ll no longer be an official member of the WP Daily team I will still be contributing to this site. As it turns out I’ve grown rather fond of it over the last three months.
Thanks for your support and I’ll see you guys online!
