There is a growing market for niche-base hosting solutions and Flywheel is no different – in fact, with a recent round of venture capital in their backpockets and full-time staff now to manage the growth of customers (now into 150+), they are gearing up for even more growth this year:
Flywheel’s offering isn’t altogether different from the outside than other managed hosting services – they take care of the WordPress updates, site backups, malware scans, with a control panel to boot.
One of the things in relation the to admin is that it’s “stripped back and features a workflow tailored to designers.” Although I haven’t seen this myself there is an image shared via the announce post:
It’s worth noting that the the CEO of Silicon Prairie News is also the CEO of Flywheel, so the announcement isn’t surprising that it broke there.
The BETA program looks to open at the end of the summer and they’ve got more than 4,000 people who have signed up for more information – if they are able to convert even a portion of those then it seems as if Flywheel will have more than a great start.
I wonder if the next step is for WP Engine, ZippyKid, and Page.ly to start offering targeted solutions for newer customers, a market segmentation that WordPress.com and Automattic have already begun.
WordPress managed hosting is a growth industry – it’s time to get on it. Oh, and by the way, Flywheel is hiring.
