Ever wondered what links visitors to your site are clicking most?
HotSpots can help you with that. It basically overlays a heat map on each page of your site showing you where clicks are happening the most.
HotSpots is a neat plugin that allows you to see some information on where clicks and taps are happening most on your website. Each page of your site gets its own heat map, and different heat maps are drawn when you resize the window, modify zoom levels and device pixel ratios to cater for responsive design. Best of all, the plugin is free, and all data is stored right in your local WordPress database!
This seems like a great complement to something like Google Analytics, since it can actually show you where the clicks on your site came from. It’s a great visualization for your Analytics data. You can use the information it provides to make decisions about where to place certain links, how big they should be, etc.
The more usability information you can collect about your site, the better you can make it for your visitors, and make sure they’re engaging fully with your site.
One note about the plugin, it does use some system resources, so it’s not recommended for sites where performance is critical. It also requires your theme to be HTML5 compliant and a browser with HTML5 compliance.
Check out the plugin if it sounds like something you would be interested in and let us know in the comments what you think about the data you receive from it!
