When it comes to WordPress, one of the most exciting things about the platform is the variety of ways of which we can develop products on top of it.
Aside fro the typical blog, there are options for theme development, plugin development, and even application developer.
If you’re a budding WordPress developer and have a desire to learn to write a WordPress plugin from the ground up, then you’ve gotta check out the Envato workshop being held by our very own Tom McFarlin later this month.
Introduction to WordPress Plugin Development
Just as the course description states:
In this Tuts+ Live Workshop, you’re going to learn everything that you need to know to start developing WordPress plugins; from setting up a local development environment, all the way through to building a WordPress plugin that’s ready for release into the WordPress Plugin Repository.
Each weekly workshop will last one hour, running over a five week period. You’ll have the opportunity to follow along with Tom, ask questions live during the workshop, and complete a weekly homework assignment. Additionally, we’ll have downloadable resources from each workshop available for you to review.
Sounds neat, right?
On top of that, if you’re unable to make the workshop, Envato will be making the course material available the day after the live workshop.
As mentioned, the workshops are live – that means rather than watching pre-recorded material or having to email certain questions, you’ll be able to interact with Tom and other participants during the course of the workshops.
In short, the course is going to take you through the following steps:
- Setting Up The Development Environment
- Planning The Plugin
- Development The Plugin, Part 1
- Developing The Plugin, Part 2
- Preparing The Plugin For Release
All in all, it should be a great time.
Note also that there are early bird tickets priced at $49 while tickets last.
