I’m going to share with you my secret about promoting your business using WordPress web sites.
Ok, this isn’t really a “secret” so much as it’s a story of how I began to use WordPress and found it incredibly helpful for my own small business.
Some might say, why would you want to share secrets that could help someone else that may end up being part of your competition? Well, WordPress as a community as I see it through my eyes is exactly about sharing and helping one another without any money attached.
So here’s my challenge to the community and to other small business owners: Use WordPress and then share what you have learned.
Back to the Basics: Every Business Needs a Website, or Two…
First off, your business needs a primary web site with a strong domain name. What is strong? A domain name that makes it obvious what your business is all about.
For example, if you sell rugs, you wouldn’t want a domain like… mycooking.com or jibberjaber.com. What about something that has “rugs” in the name. Don’t be discouraged if when picking the “perfect” domain name you find out it’s already taken, because chances are you find that someone already thought of it and has taken that “perfect” domain name.
Keep trying and eventually you will find one that is not taken. Sometimes it takes me an hour or more trying out different domain names in a search before I get lucky and find one close to my original idea.
So once your primary web is created and live, you will need to create more web sites to further your exposure. You will also want to create a separate Blog site, and a Private – Member only secure site for customer support, and a forum site for your customers to vent their questions and talk to others.
And of course, WordPress makes this so easy!
So that’s 3 more sites for you to put up. You don’t have to empty your bank account to do that. Sure if you paid for hosting on each site, that could get a little costly, so the solution is to get a hosting account that allows you to have multiple sites on one host. If you look around it’s easy to find a host service that can handle multiple web sites and only pay one hosting monthly fee.
The blog site will attract more traffic than a regular web site because each time you post new blog content it zaps Google and Bing search engines to visit your site more often. You will want to have a link from your Primary Site to your Blog, your Private site, and your Forum from the main menu and on each of the other sites do the same thing only linking back to the Primary.
All these sites will work together establishing you as a serious business owner and the more traffic you have…? Well, you know the rest. You need traffic to get business and to sell your service/product.
In conclusion I don’t think these so called ‘secrets’ I am telling you about are that earth-shattering, or original, as a lot of people already know how all this works, but for those of you that don’t, then maybe this will help.
Use WordPress – I’m telling everyone that I know that has a small business that this is the solution for you. I hope that I can educate, inform, and encourage others to get their business out there, be more successful, and share their knowledge and experience with all!
Good luck and do your best!
