This is fantastic news that came across our wire late yesterday as we received word that WP101, the well-known WordPress tutorial site, has released their tutorials in spanish.
The challenge was obvious as they had once considered just doing subtitles instead of a true voiceover but to give that authentic feel they decided to invest in the latter:
Initially, we considered simply adding subtitles to our existing videos. That would have been much easier, but we felt that best experience would be to not only translate our videos into Spanish, but also re-record every video using a localized version of the WordPress dashboard.
They found the likes of Alejandro Carrillo, a WordPress designer from Mexico city who partnered with this new endeavor.
There is no question that this expansion into the spanish-speaking language segment is both strategic and wise as the growth opportunities are immense. There’s a lot of business in not just the english-speaking language and WordPress transcends it all!
Well done and keep it up! I’m sure we’ll hear about more translations coming shortly via WP101.
