Today we are thrilled to be introducing Torque, the WordPress News Core. Our goal with Torque is to create a hub for community building and offer a forum for WordPress news. Dedicated entirely to the advancement of the WordPress ecosystem, Torque operates on the open-source philosophy that together, we can accomplish more than we can separately.
We chose the name Torque because we were inspired by the power of tools to create greater motion and force. Our aspiration for Torque is for it to become a resource that propels our community to insightful thoughts, and to serve as a catalyst for innovation.
WordPress has touched nearly every internet user and changed the lives of countless engineers, writers, and entrepreneurs. WordPress is our shared backbone. The Business of WordPress is thriving and continues to grow rapidly. We believe it’s time that professionals inside and outside the WordPress Community have a reliable and lasting news resource. This is exactly what we are offering with Torque.
As editor, I bring to the table my passion for technology and communicating, which I discovered at NYU and honed at AFI. My professional experience managing celebrity websites and writing and editing for media outlets like Radical Media, TakePart, and SOMA Magazine has equipped me with a keen editorial eye and a sincere interest in the WordPress community.
My vision for Torque includes a fierce sense of editorial independence. We are published by WP Engine, but I was brought on from the outside in order to spearhead and manage an autonomous publication, not to promote a brand. Torque will not shy away from controversy. Instead, when we feature biased or opinionated pieces, we will always try to represent both sides of an issue.
Torque was gearing up for launch when WP Daily announced its withdrawal from the community. We couldn’t stand by and see all of the content fall by the wayside, so we swiftly made moves to resurrect its legacy. Now Torque contains the WP Daily archives. This preserves the valuable content created by WP Daily while Torque sets forth on its new journey.
Torque welcomes you all with open arms to join us in our efforts toward a more collaborative and prosperous future. We look forward to what’s to come. Join us!
