February was dominated by minimal WordPress themes. Virtually all the themes released during this month, barring a few noteworthy exceptions, had a clean and minimal content-centric layout.
In this roundup, I have listed some of the top free WordPress themes released during the month of February 2014.
1. Crates
Crates is a responsive WordPress theme for tumbloggers. It features a grid-based layout and supports multiple post formats.
2. Zweig
Zweig is a minimal WordPress theme with a focus on typography. It is responsive and sports a single-column clean design with a one-level menu header.
3. PepMagazine
As the name suggests, PepMagazine is a WordPress theme meant for news and magazine websites.
4. Pantheon
Pantheon is a simple minimal theme ideally meant for personal blogs. It is fully responsive and offers a clutterless design.
5. Hephaestus
Hephaestus is a light-weight theme for news and magazine websites. It features a two-column layout with a homepage slider.
6. Leather Diary
Leather Diary is a responsive WordPress theme meant for blog and magazine websites. It comes with several pre-defined color schemes, custom shortcodes, and is localization ready (also includes translations in Czech, French, Spanish, Slovak and German).
7. Aquarius
Aquarius is a minimal WordPress theme that caters to personal blogs. It has a Georgia-based typography and is fully responsive.
8. Hex
Hex is a responsive theme meant for personal blogs and tumblogs. It has a colorful layout and supports post formats.
PS: No clue what’s with the name. WordPress.com lists it as ‘Hexa’, whereas WordPress.org uses ‘Hex’.
9. Smpl Skeleton
Smpl Skeleton is a responsive WordPress theme that supports custom shortcodes, multiple color schemes as well as custom page layouts.
10. Matheson
Matheson is a clean and responsive WordPress theme. It supports multiple post formats and is based on Twitter Bootstrap.
11. Corpocrat
Corpocrat is a WordPress theme meant for personal blogs. It comes with five color schemes and an optional full width layout.
12. Hemingway
Hemingway is a clean and responsive two-column WordPress theme. It is translation ready, sports an enormous header image, and comes with custom widgets for videos, Dribbble and Flickr.
13. Wilson
Wilson is a responsive WordPress theme meant for tumblogs. Much like Hemingway, Wilson is also translation ready and comes with custom widgets for videos, Dribbble and Flickr.
14. Almasi
Almasi (literally, ‘the diamond’) comes with multiple menu locations, custom widgets and a homepage slider. It is translation ready.
15. Base WP
Base WP is an extremely minimal WordPress theme with a corporate layout. It is responsive and translation ready, and supports post formats.
