This morning, WebDevStudios announced Dre Armeda—co-host of DradCast and co-founder of the popular website security company, Sucuri—as their new Vice President of Operations.
This is exciting news, and we’re eager to see what innovation and progress comes from it!
I reached out to Dre directly to understand his motives for joining the WebDevStudios team, and how his new role will impact his positioning in the WordPress Space.
When I asked Dre why he decided to make the move, he said:
I get really excited about building and growing ideas into something real. WebDevStudios is very real and in a great place. . .It was a logical fit with my experience and what I bring to the table. I’m very excited about where WebDevStudios is going.
Dre also mentioned that he has close ties to the the founders, as well as the company and the team. We’ve all witnessed the playful banter between Brad Williams and Dre on DradCast.
As VP of Operations, Dre will focus on organizational and business development, talent development, and strategy.
According to an interview with Brad Williams—CEO and co-founder of WebDevStudios and Dre’s partner in crime on DradCast—by Jeff Chandler of WP Tavern, Williams said:
The Vice President of Operations is a new role at WDS and our first Executive position outside of the original Partners. WDS has been growing quite a bit this year and we knew it was time to start expanding the leadership team.
Dre is well known for his strong business development skills, joining the WebDevStudios team with years of experience developing companies—including founding Cubic 2, a custom web design and development shop, and co-founding Sucuri, the popular security company.
As CEO of Sucuri, Armeda had an opportunity to see WordPress through the lens of security, though company development was always an inherent part of his career. He did, after all, help develop Sucuri into the successful company that it has become.
I asked Armeda how his new position as VP of Operations would change his role in the WordPress community, and he said:
Before I was known as a ‘security guy’ in WordPress, I was known for working on cool WordPress projects. As far as the WordPress community goes, my roots lead back to consultancy and I’m excited to be back there, of course in a bigger way this time around.
I think my role in the WordPress community is still largely connected to being an evangelist for WordPress, and open source. If we can continue building around the principles of open source, we are heading in the right direction.
WebDevStudios is a website development company that specializes in WordPress and other open-source platforms. Dre joins Brad Williams, Brian Messenlehner and Lisa Sabin-Wilson on the executive team.
Congratulations, Dre, and we look forward to seeing (more) great things from WebDevStudios in the future!
