WordPress 4.5, nicknamed “Coleman” after jazz saxophonist Coleman Hawkins, is now available. You can download it directly or update in your WordPress dashboard.
Coleman, which is fully translated into 44 different languages, includes new features and improvements for a quicker, more intuitive workflow:
- Improvements to inline linking make it even easier to link directly to your content.
- WordPress 4.5 also features improvements to formatting shortcodes.
- The new live responsive preview allows you to view your site on mobile, tablet, and desktop directly in the customizer.
- In WordPress 4.5, themes now support logos, which you can try out directly in the Site Identity section of the customizer.
The update also features several under the hood features to enhance the overall performance of your site. With smart image resizing, generated images load 50 percent faster than before.
With smart image resizing, generated images load 50 percent faster than before. This is because of an increase in the amount of compression applied to images, as well as improved resizing settings for ImageMagick.
Coleman also includes script loader improvements, better embed templates, and JavaScript library updates. Also in WordPress 4.5, the customizer now supports a comprehensive framework.
The release was led by Mike Schroder and features commits from 298 contributors.
