WordPress 4.6, nicknamed “Pepper” after baritone saxophonist Park Frederick “Pepper” Adams III, was yesterday released and is now available for download. You can download 4.6 directly or update from within your dashboard.
This highly anticipated release comes with a slew of new features that improve your workflow in WordPress, including streamlined updates, improvements to the editor, and more.
The new “Shiny Updates” in 4.6 completely streamlines your theme and plugin updates. Instead of taking you to a different page every time you enable, disable, or update your plugin, Shiny Updates changes the status right in front of your eyes.
Users no longer have to wait for Open Sans to load from Google Fonts. Instead, Pepper will use the fonts you already have, which will make them load faster than ever before.
Inline Link Checker
Broken links in a published post can be incredibly frustrating. WordPress 4.6, however, automatically checks all your links before you publish.
This is my favorite feature in WordPress 4.6. Sometimes your computer or browser crash, and while WordPress is supposed to be set up to back up all your writing, it doesn’t always work. Content Recovery completely streamlines this process, saving your work to the browser.
WordPress 4.6 also features several under the hood updates, including
- Speed improvements to WordPress multisite
- HTTP API now leverages the Requests library
- Resource hints
- and more.

With all these updates, the community is understandably excited.
