Twenty-sixteen was a great year for WordCamps and WordPress meetups. According to Matt Mullenweg in his 2016 State of the Word, there were 115 total WordCamps and 3,193 meetups. That’s a lot of people coming together to celebrate WordPress.
Apart from the traditional WordCamps, the year also saw a rise in niche conferences aimed at specific aspects of WordPress. Educators who use WordPress, eCommerce enthusiasts, marketers, and developers found their place at a variety of conferences. This year has even more niche conferences for users of all kinds to love.
Here are six niche conferences you can’t miss this year.
WP Campus
When: July 14-15
Where: Buffalo, NY
WordPress is a great option for educational institutions. It is easy to use, cheap, and scalable. The biggest thing standing in the way of WordPress taking over every school and university is awareness. WP Campus is working to bring the CMS to the educators. Last year the conference was held at the University of South Florida in July.
Though the location and date haven’t been confirmed for WP Campus 2017, the team is offering an online version on Jan. 23. Log on for an entire day of sessions all around WordPress and education.
LoopConf
When: Feb. 6-8
Where: Salt Lake City
LoopConf had a bit of a hard time in 2016 after the event was postponed in early October due to Hurricane Matthew. But that’s not going to stop the team from coming back bigger and better in February. This is a complete developer conference for anyone who loves creating awesome things on WordPress.
Tickets are now on sale for LoopConf, which will be held on Feb. 6-8 in Salt Lake City, where there aren’t any hurricanes in sight.
A Day of REST
When: March 9
Where: Boston
The REST API made strides in 2016, ending the year with the inclusion of content endpoints in WordPress core. A Day of REST, the annual developer conference will be held on March 9 with workshops on March 8 and 10. The conference is a place to learn how to use the REST API in your own projects as well as see where the API is going.
The event will feature speakers from all over the WordPress community. Make sure you set aside time to attend the workshops before and after the conference to learn about JavaScript, ReactJS, WooCommerce, and more. Tickets are still on sale.
WooConf
When: October 19-20
Where: Seattle, Wa.
WooConf is about everything WooCommerce. If you love eCommerce and want to learn more about the Woo platform and running a WordPress business, this conference is for you.
Though we don’t have any information yet about when and where WooConf 2017 will be held, check back at the WooConf website for updates and ticket sales.
