Doc’s WordPress News Drop is a weekly report on the most pressing WordPress news. When the news drops, I will pick it up and deliver it right to you.
Clef, the popular two factor authentication plugin for WordPress, is shutting down. This week, Doc talks about why that’s a bummer and what plugins you can try instead.
Love WordPress news but hate reading? This is Doc Pop’s News Drop.
Clef Two Factor authentication was a plugin that allowed you to sign into your WordPress site by pointing your smartphone camera towards a symbol displayed on the computer screen and Clef will automatically sign you in without pressing a single button. I know some people who liked it so much that they fully disabled all username/password signups on their site to prevent brute force attacks.
Sounds like something you want to install on your site? Too bad, the ceo of Clef has just announced they have merged with another company and are sunsetting the Clef Two Factor app on June 6th. Don’t worry though, Clef was hugely popular, so I’m sure many other plugins will step up to clone it’s functionality.{ping sound, doc looks at phone} Oh, there’s one now.
Torque Magazine is made up of contributors from all over the world and we use Google Docs to share and edit many of our articles. However, transferring them into WordPress isn’t easy. Images don’t copy and the formatting often gets messed up. But there may be a solution on the way.
WordPress.com users can install a Chrome extension that allows them to quickly transfer a Google Doc article right into WordPress. It looks great and nothing is lost in translation. For self-hosted users, Jetpack will offer the same functionaility, however some people have mentioned that it isn’t as seamless as working with .com. Connecting these two platforms will make sharing work so much easier and definitely alleviate some headaches for our Torque editors. That’s it for this week’s News Drop. Our Plugin Madness competition has just kicked off, so be sure to go vote for your favorite WordPress plugins over on PluginMadness.com
