Love WordPress news, but hate reading? This is Doc Pop’s News Drop.
GoDaddy has been chomping up many WordPress companies in the last few years, but it was still a huge surprise last week when word came out that GoDaddy had acquired Sucuri Security, a popular WordPress security firm that we’ve featured many times on the show before. Congrats to Dre, Tony, and crew.
Last year, we ran a great news drop video about the history of GoDaddy’s acquisitions, I’ll drop a link to that in the comments. Some of those acquisitions, like ManageWP, seem to have kept their core users happy, while others, like MadMimi, seemed to struggle with their reputation.
It’ll be interesting to see what the future holds for the Sucuri crew. So far the community’s reaction has been mixed.
In other news, Mike Little, the co-founder of WordPress, has joined the Human Made team as a WordPress specialist. Back in 2003, Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little forked the Cafelog project and began what we now know as WordPress. Since then, it seems like Mike has been the more silent of the two, so it’ll be cool to see him taking on a more outgoing role in the community again.
