It’s a profoundly sad time for WordPress. Yesterday, we lost another great member of the community – father, husband, and good friend to many, Jesse Peterson.
Jesse was a beloved member of the WordPress community, owner of Peterson Media Group, and founder of Genesis The.me. He was living with Cystic Fibrosis and was on the waitlist for a double lung transplant. Jesse’s good friend, Ben Meredith wrote:
“Friends,
This is not the post I wanted to write today. I wanted to click “Publish” on the draft we’ve already got saved named “It’s a GO!”
But God in His providence—a providence Jesse leaned so heavily on these last few months—decided to answer Jesse’s prayers for perfect lungs with a resounding yes, just not the way we wanted.
Today is a profoundly sad day for us, and no amount of platitudes could or should soothe the ache. But Jesse would tell you right now to run to Jesus.
I just set up a new fund on this site to help with Funeral Expenses and to support his family. Jesse was the sole income of his family. Please give generously.”
As a member of the WordPress community for more than a decade, Jesse left an impression on all who knew him. Not only because of his professional work, but also because of his kindness, humility, and faith. From a quick read of the comments below, you can see Jesse is leaving behind a lasting legacy.
Ben set up a fund to help cover funeral expenses and to support Jesse’s family during this time. Due to the generosity of the community, funds have already surpassed the initial $20,000 goal. A new goal of $100,000 has been set.
Jesse will be deeply missed. His family and loved ones are in our thoughts. We ask that you share your memories, photos, and stories of Jesse in the comments below.
