In this week’s News Drop, we talk about a few of the workshops at WordCamp US plus details of the first ever KidsCamp at WCUS.
Love WordPress News but hate reading? My name is Doc and this is Doc Pop’s News Drop.
There’s only a couple of months before WordCamp US happens this year in St. Louis. This year will be the first year that WCUS adds Workshops to their lineup. These workshops are a deeper and more hands on way to experience a subject than the usual tracts. Some of workshops presented so far include:
-Andrew Taylor’s Automating Your QA with Visual Regression. Visual regression testing is an effective tool to make sure that a web page doesn’t have any noticeable changes to a site after making a code change and can be extremely important if your running updates to several sites at a time. Automating this task can scale effectively and help find any errors quickly.
-Bridget Willard will run a workshop on Crafting an Effective Bio for Your Website and Social Profiles. I know many folks would rather have their teeth pulled before they had to write their own bio, so I think this workshop could really come in handy.
On the Gutenberg side of things, Rich Tabor will be giving a workshop on The Building Blocks of Building Blocks and Michelle Schulp Designing Themes in a Block-Based World.
This will also be the first year that WCUS will host its KidsCamp. The day long event on Sunday November 3rd will introduce kids to the world of WordPress and web development. By the end of the day, each kid should have a WordPress site of their very own. The event will also include hands-on STEAM education projects for the students to enjoy.
If you are interested in helping make WordCamp US even better, the organizers have put out a request for volunteers. You can learn more on 2019.us.wordcamp.org Shout out to all of the volunteers who help make WordCamps possible. It’s an amazing community and I really appreciate your work.
After four years of planning, WordCamp Asia is happening in Bangkok, Thailand on February 21st through the 23rd. This is the first ever regional WordCamp for this continent, which hosts 127 local WordPress meetups across 23 countries. There’s more info available on https://2020.asia.wordcamp.org
And over in Nicaragua, WordPressers have proposed the first ever WordCamp Central America event. The event hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the goal is to host the first WordCamp Central America event in Managua, Nicaragua in 2020. Stay tuned for more news on that.
That’s it for this week’s News Drop, stay tuned next week for more WordPress news.
We also talk about WordCamp Asia and WordCamp Central America.
