The Grant for the Web proposal deadline has been extended through June 22. The $100M fund was set up to help developers working on “privacy-centric, open, and accessible Web Monetization ecosystem.”
Grant for the Web is funded and led by Coil, working in collaboration with founding collaborators Mozilla and Creative Commons. (Additional collaborators may be added in the future.) A Program Team, led by Loup Design & Innovation, manages the day-to-day operations of the program.
“Through our work building the Coil Web Monetization WordPress plugin to make it easy for people to add and control micropayment functionality on their WordPress sites, we learned of Grant For the Web,” Pragmatic CEO David Lockie said. “The grant is a powerful statement of intent by the participants (Coil, Mozilla and Creative Commons) to kickstart adoption of this technology. At Pragmatic, we believe strongly in the power of the open web and believe that web monetization (and revenue diversification in general) is important to its ongoing health.”
The team has already awarded $250,000 to three organizations, Free Music Archive, Coronavirus Tech Handbook, DEV, and Grant for Web Ambassadors.
Individuals or groups can apply using this link. If you are interested but aren’t sure how to layout your proposal, the team is holding Office Hours, or you can stop by the community forum.
This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to grow their web monetization projects.
“This grant is an incredible opportunity for marketers, developers, technologists and community leaders to help increase awareness and adoption of this technology. We’ve applied for a grant ourselves and hope that many in the WordPress community will take advantage of this extremely generous grant to spend time working with micropayments based on open technologies,” Lockie said.
