2020 was a tough year. WordCamps and meetups had to move entirely online and some were even canceled altogether. After parties and hallway tracks felt much different and overall we just missed our WordPress friends.
Big Orange Heart created WordFest to bring us a little bit closer. This 24-hour long conference starts on Jan. 21 at 23:00 UTC and spans four different time zones:
- It starts in Oceania at 10 AM – 4 PM AEDT, January 22, 2021.
- Then onto Asia arriving 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM IST.
- Next up it’s EMEA at 11 AM through 5 PM UTC.
- Finally arriving in the Americas 12 PM until 6 PM EST.
It is free to register and you get access to the livestream as well as the library of archived talks after the event.
According to Dan Maby, WordFest Live lead organizer, “WordFest Live 2021 was born out of a need, as with everything from Big Orange Heart; the need for human connection. Over the last 9 months, a small team of volunteers have been working tirelessly to deliver a unique platform that enables people to come together in a more humanistic form than many other solutions, virtually. The benefit of this format is indisputable; with members joining our regular meetups from almost 100 global locations, our (virtual) doors are open to you. Learn, connect, enjoy.“
About Big Orange Heart
Not only is WordFest aimed at bringing the community together, it’s also acting as a fundraiser for Big Orange Heart. Big Orange Heart, formerly WP&Up, provides resources for remote workers to live a happier healthier life.
The team provides ways to improve your mental, physical, and business health. If you’ve been feeling down, reach out to someone on the website and get talking to someone today.
According to Paul Smart, WordFest Live sponsor co-lead: “I’ve had the pleasure of being part of the Big Orange Heart team for sometime now. Helping others gives me a purpose and if we can help just one person in need with the funds we raise from WordFest Live 2021, then it would have all been worthwhile!”
While registration to the event is absolutely free, you can also donate to Big Orange Heart if you want to.
Coming Together
If we’ve learned anything from 2020, it’s how adaptable the WordPress community is. Not only is WordFest a time to learn from WordPress experts, it’s a celebration of the power of WordPress and the people who create it.
