Oh yeah! It’s finally here!
Much thanks and congrats to the team and all of the contributors for WordPress 3.5 – your hard work and dedication continues to power millions of people’s work. We appreciate you guys!
Now you may have already downloaded some of the release candidates and are running them on your blog right now but I’d love to see what people’s first impressions (were) are of 3.5? What catches your attention, what are you really digging in this latest release?
I’ve already mentioned it but I’ll say it again: The new media uploader is awesome and it’s streamlining my publishing workflow by saving me a few more clicks and a few more seconds, and this matters – it really, really does.
Have you ever considered how much cumulative time you spend on repetitive tasks day after day after day? Just thinking about how much time I’ve spent in areas of even the core WordPress application that I shouldn’t have to bugs the living crap out of me.
Sure, I’d be considered more of a super-user than most but it irks me that tasks that could be reduced a few clicks aren’t. I’m not complaining and it’s not that bad (unlike many other applications out there) but I do rejoice when things are simplified and streamlined. I’ll do everything I can to reduce the friction of publishing if possible.
While I’m soapboxing (or about to get on one) I think email is one of the greatest untouched frontiers of usability and design. It’s not perfect and it’s not even close to being fast or effective for productivity. I suppose I’ll step down now from that one because I could probably harp on that for the rest of the day.
Necessary evils for now – but on to greater things, like the release of WordPress 3.5. Go get it, install it, and publish happy.
