Love WordPress news, but hate reading? This is Doc Pop’s News Drop.
You know, I’m like the kids out there. I’m hip. I’m on the Instagrams and the Twitters, and the facebooks. As a hip young blogger I know I want my site to work great with Twitter, so today we are going to teach you how to set up Twitter Cards on your WordPress site.
Whenever sharing a url to Facebook, you’ll see a nice preview, blog title, and featured image appear for the site you are linking to. Twitter, on the other hand requires you to jump through several hoops to enable this feature. It’s called a Twitter Card and there are many single purpose plugins that you could use to activate this feature, but since we love Yoast SEO, and you are probably already using Yoast anyways, we are going to walk you through setting Twitter Cards it up in there.
First make sure you have Yoast SEO installed and activated in your plugins. Next, open Yoast SEO in your dashboard, it’s on the left hand side as “SEO”.
Click on “Social” and add the prefered social media handles for each option. You can add Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
If you click on the Twitter tab, you can also select how your twitter cards will end up displaying. Summary is the most common layout, but if you want a large image preview you can select that option instead.
Be sure to hit “Save changes” when done.
To make sure everything worked correctly, you can go to the Twitter Card validator and plug in a link to a recent post on your site.
Now your blog is all set up to work with Twitter, #blessed! Speaking of Twitter, be sure to find @thetorquemag on Twitter for up to the minute WordPress news.
