Love WordPress news but hate reading? This is Doc Pop’s News Drop.
Last week was Geek Mental Help me Week. Over on geekmentalhelp.com, contributors wrote articles discussing their struggles with depression, anxiety disorders, and more.
I myself am not a geek, I’m a nerd, but I found the information super helpful and as I see more of my friends working longer and longer hours, I think it’s important we talk openly about this subject.
So if you’ve been spending too much time compiling errors, take a minute off and check out a few tips to keep yourself relaxed and stressfree.
Take breaks-
When I get stuck on a hard problem, I like to give myself permission to take a short 10 minute break to recharge. Keep a musical instrument or sketchpad nearby to get your mind thinking about something else. When I get stuck, I pull out a yo-yo. This always gets my creative juices flowing again.
Take care of yourself-
It’s important for everyone to exercise and eat well. Finding a routine can help make this easier, but you can also take short breaks thoughout the day to do some simple exercises. If your body feels good, your mind will feel good too.
Take time to hang out with your friends-
It’s easy to get caught up in a project, but it’s important to spend time with friends too. I like to have a set time each week to hang out with my friends. This not only keeps us close, but helps force me to take some time off work to relax.
Pet something fluffy-
If you don’t have room or time to take care of a pet on your own, you can go to your local animal shelter and pet a dog or cat. Seriously, it’s great for these animals to be socialized and you get to pet a hairy little Sergeant Flufferpuff. Win win.
These are just a few small tips, whatever you do, remember your mental health is important.
If you have any stress-release tips, leave them in the comments below. It’s goof for you!
