Since 2010, Sucuri has been servicing the community by making the internet a safer place. In four short years, the company has evolved from a 2-man team into a multi-million dollar company. Sucuri has become a dominating force in the anti-web malware and security industry (not to mention it’s widely favored across the WordPress community).
On Monday, Dre Armeda, co-founder of Sucuri, announced that he’s stepping down from his position as CEO of Sucuri Inc. He’s passing the torch to Tony Perez, former chief operating officer.
In regards to this bittersweet news, I reached out to Perez. Here’s what he had to say:
First, and foremost, Dre is my family. Over the past four years, his contributions have been invaluable, he’s provided steadfast leadership when it was required and direction when needed. Daniel and I are selfishly upset, but we also completely understand. The life in a young startup is hard, taking its toll in areas that go beyond the virtual walls of a company, sometimes change is inevitable. There’s no greater quality in a leader than their ability for self-reflection, this is where Dre finds himself today.
I have no doubt however that in the coming weeks/months he will be working full-steam on some new initiative. He’s a thought leader, an innovator—it’s in his blood to create and grow. He was instrumental in helping us grow from a few part-timers with a crazy idea to a company with over 32 employees, servicing clients around the world, for this we, Sucuri, will be forever grateful.
I do want to provide the community and our clients the same reassurances we provided our team. Our vision is simple: to make the web a safer place. Our resolve to this end is unwavering. Our company was founded by three individuals, and Daniel and I will continue to work towards our ambitious goals tirelessly. Our roadmap is bright and we think that many will truly appreciate the direction we are headed.
To you, Dre, my brother, I wish you all the best and again, thank you for everything you did for us as a company and for me as an individual. You will be missed!
It’s clear that there are exciting things on the horizon regarding Armeda’s future initiatives. As for the future of Sucuri, it’s obvious that the company is in capable hands, and that they will continue to work towards providing extensive security across the web.
