As you may have experienced in the last few weeks WP Daily has been up and down a handful of times as we mess with server settings, tweak caching, and other such tomfoolery. We’ve had such an incredible response that it’s demanded that we move a lot quicker in terms of building the site into a place that can scale well and smartly, especially since we’re on a shoestring (internal) budget that’s making this site feel oh so very much like a startup. And that’s a good thing. It forces us to become incredibly innovative with our time and how […]
Will Norris Gets Keys to Android Kingdom
It was recently announced via Make Mobile that Will Norris now has core commit access to the Android Trunk for development! We just wanted to have a quick shout-out to him and let him know that we’re thankful to his contributions and dedicated work. Interesting aside, but Will is also a Googler – that is, a Google Engineer working in their Open Source Programs Office. OoooOoooOOooh. Sounds so legit! Of course he has a Google+ page so you can track him there but he’s also on Twitter: @willnorris.
How Automattic Makes Their Automagic
Although we’re moving to a more permanent location we’ve been in love with being a virtualized and distributed team for quite a while and we’ll continue to do that with our out-of-state staff. It’s tough though, that’s for sure, to stay on task at times and to make sure that everyone is in-sync with the what we’re doing so we use things like SocialCast for our community management and as well as tasks on occasion. It’s like a digital watercooler back there at times! And of course we have to deal with such oddities as figuring out where you put the […]
VaultPress: Restore Backup on New Site
VaultPress is continuing to cook up new features on it’s product and this one’s a long time coming: The ability to restore a backup on a new site! Just imagine the possibilities! You’re transferring old content to a new domain or site or doing a massive migration perhaps for yourself or a client. Or what about moving to a sub-directory even on your current server? All this is now made possible with a few clicks of the magic button:
Would You Use ThemeDemo.co?
If I understand this correctly then ThemeDemo.co is offering opportunities for you to create private instances of your own theme (if you’re a theme company or theme provider) to potential buyers. So, instead of viewing just the front-end of the demo the potential customer will be able to jump into the back-end as well and experience the theme from the admin level, right? And, after a certain number of hours the theme instance will be removed / disabled, giving the potential buyer a nice notice and then an opportunity to connect directly to the seller for feedback or perhaps even […]
Poll: Do WordPress Developers Test for IE?
I know, I know. All of us test for Internet Explorer (and previous versions) for every WordPress product, theme, and plugin that we release, right? I mean, no developer in their right mind would ever publicly release a product without testing for IE…?!? *Note rampant sarcasm*
Pressnomics 2.0: Coming Soon!
via blog: It’s official. Planning is underway for PressNomics 2.0. The idea of PressNomics is simple: Get the movers and shakers of the WordPress economy in the same physical place and bring in amazing business focused speakers to share their experience, add in some ample social time and see what happens. Bam. There you go.
BlackBerry 2.2.6: Released for 10, PlayBook
The BlackBerry WordPress team now has released version 2.2.6 and is now available through BlackBerry World. This release sees an incredibly more stable version and the fact that it now runs on PlayBook besides BlackBerry 10: Improved support for connecting over HTTPS. Stability improvements. We continue to make the app even more stable. In this release we fixed more than 20 bugs. Code cleanup and optimization. Here are some screens showcased via their announcement post as well:
WooThemes Closes Affiliate Program
Yup. WooThemes is closing down their affiliate program for some very simply stated reasons: We’re sorry to say that we are discontinuing our referral program because of lack of traction for the program. Access to signup and log in has been removed for the time being. Bummer. In a much longer newsletter to existing affiliates, it was clearly stated that not just lack of traction was an issue but also fraud and abuse: I’m in the unfortunate position to let you know that we will be closing our referral program on Friday, 8 February 2013. In the last couple of […]
Behind the Scenes: All Together Now
Today is a milestone for us as the core partners are all hanging out in our new office together. As I mentioned in a previous post we have been and will continue to be a very distributed team but we are spending more time together to make even better progress on our core products and, of course, this blog. This is going to be a big season for us as a group as it’s a ‘make it or break it’ year for us in terms of our core metrics of business success – we’ve been together for 3 years and counting and although […]
