The WordPress teams have been incredibly busy with fresh updates this week about the state of tickets and the advancements of WordPress 3.6. Some highlights recently have been around auto-saving, post locking, and revisions. For example, some of the things that you will start hearing is about this new “heartbeat” API that’s being developed: “WP Heartbeat” API, #23216. This will do polling or long-polling so the server is able to send data and notifications to the browser. The primary use will be for setting, monitoring or taking over a post lock. Additionally it will be used to send autosave data to the server. […]
Sergey Biryukov Gets Guest Commit Access, TV Show?
And that would be cool if we did get a TV show out of a new guest committer, right? Or not. But the news was released yesterday that Sergey has been given access and will help with the squashing of many bugs. Andrew Nacin shares a few words about Sergey’s bug-squashing-skills: Allow me to pass the baton. Sergey’s Trac activity can best be described as omnipresent. He has had many hundreds of contributions, large and small, accepted to WordPress core. His contributions are always thoroughly researched, with links to related tickets and changesets often going back to a previous decade. […]
WordCamp Phoenix 2013 Wrap-up
What a weekend! WordCamp Phoenix 2013 was a massive success. Hundreds of WordPress-loving (or -curious) folks sat in on expert presentations, got help at the Rockstar Bar, shared a meal, and partied together. Friendships were forged, connections were made, WordPress installations were secured—more happened than one fella can recount. In my intro post, I covered the basic structure of each day, and then liveblogged the entire weekend, capturing snippets that caught my attention. Aside from the usual recap posts about the weekend, some other great items to check out are the official photographer’s initial shots (in which I’m caught drinking coffee and tweeting), […]
A House Divided: WordPress.org, Envato, and GPL Battle
There has been little secret about the issues between WordPress.org proper and Envato and the various and different interpretations to GPL, licensing, and distribution/ownership rights. But the battle is beginning to get heated (and personal) as the WordPress Foundation is now requesting that anyone who sells their products on Envato properties (WordPress Themes and Plugins) not speak at, volunteer for, organize or sponsor WordCamps (Thanks Drew for the clarification!). And when I say it’s getting heated – it’s really getting heated – there hasn’t been this type of online riot since, well, Chris Pearson (remember that big issue?). It’s worth noting that it […]
Behind the Scenes: Finding Focus in a World of Distraction
Getting stuff done is difficult to begin with especially with all the distractions that exist in both the real life and the digital. Trying to run a successful and growing editorial blog is tough work – I mean, let me be frank, it is really hard. It takes a lot of time, effort, and some guts to do it, especially if you’re trying to (at some point) earn a living through it. As a result, you have to take all the breaks you can get! I’ve got a few quirks and personal preferences but I share must-have strategy for myself to […]
Just Another WordPress Blog Link Pile?
There’s always room for one more, right? Brian Krogsgard has launched a new link blog called Post Status that does, well, what you think it might do: Provide links to content. How innovative is this new initiative? Like the thousands of other sites out there really isn’t anything special. In fact, let’s be honest – even what we’re doing here isn’t innovative either (so we’re in the same boat my friend). What may be special is the fact that Sir Krogsalot (what we call him internally) is curating it. If you trust Brian (and he’s a pretty trustworthy guy) to provide […]
24 Hours of Continuous WordPress? Enter WordSesh 2013!
It’s hard to imagine that anyone who loves WordPress like we do would ever decline an offer for even more WordPress, right? Well, the there are two guys who are looking to take it to the extreme by offering a constant stream of WordPress into your brain with WordSesh. Scott Basgaard and Brad Williams are behind the project that is scheduled to launch in April. If you’re interested in speaking or helping out you can drop them a line at mail [at] wordsesh [dot] org.
WordPress iOS App Drafts
Anyone else get post ideas on the go? I sure do and if I don’t write down (or type) them, I’ll forget them. Because of this I have started something new. I just open up the WordPress iOS App and create a new post and just enter a title and some notes on what I want to write about. I didn’t want to Publish the post, so I would click Cancel button. After clicking Cancel, you’re prompted with a message that will ask you if you want to Discard, Save Draft, or Keep Editing. Naturally I clicked the Save Draft button […]
Aaron Jorbin Now Leads Meetups Program
The Meetups program is undergoing some massive changes this year with hopes of creating some symmetry between all the groups in organization, philosophy, and execution. Although the grand vision that was laid out has yet to fully materialize one of the current changes is the fact that WordPress is now paying the Meetup.com dues that each group is required to pay. Not bad, especially if you’re an organizer and want to keep the meetups as trim as possible. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg as they say since there’s an avalanche of proposed ideas that’ll make it even […]

Congrats to both Rachel Baker and our own Tom McFarlin who have joined up with the growing team lead by Siobhan to help create the Theme Developer Handbook and Plugin Developer Handbook, respectively. But they aren’t alone as they’ve got a tribe of contributors and supporters backing them:
