The WordPress REST API is a hot topic in the WordPress space, particularly among developers. But for some of us less technical WordPress users, understanding exactly why this API is so revolutionary is a challenge. WP Engine and Torque have teamed up to create a free white paper on the WordPress REST API geared toward non-developers. Just because you don’t know how to code, doesn’t mean you have to miss out on what the REST API has to offer. Download The WordPress REST API, An Untechnical Guide for Non-Developers. The paper answers questions like, what is an API, what does REST stand for, and what does […]

How To Set Up WordPress Multisite — A Beginner’s Guide
Even after working with WordPress for more than four years, I still discover new things about the platform. There are so many functions and features — some well known, others not so much — that it’s hard to try everything the platform has to offer. Plus, new stuff is added with every update, making it even more complicated to stay up to date. Luckily, my work as a WordPress blogger allows me to explore things in detail in order to tell others about it (that means you, dear reader). A feature that I haven been aware of for a long time […]
What’s Your Secret Superhero Identity As A Web Developer?
If I’ve learned anything over the years, it’s that web developers come in all types. They all have different styles, different attitudes, and different ways of doing things. A lot of this has to do with what happens when you view a skill set through an individual’s eyes. The tools and techniques are the same, but the end result can be very different from person to person and site to site. Since I think so highly of the web dev lot, I thought it might be fun to see which common personality traits they share with some of the best-known […]
How To Get Traffic From Alternative Search Engines (Other Than Google)
When it comes to SEO and getting traffic, the majority of people automatically think of Google. No wonder when the official word for “searching something on the Internet” contains its very name. With more than 50,000 searches per second, Google is definitely the king of search engines. So, from an SEO perspective it makes total sense to set up your site to please them. However, that doesn’t mean it is the only traffic source worth optimizing for. Believe it or not, there are alternative search engines that can also bring masses of visitors to your site. And I am talking […]

Yesterday, WordPress co-founder Matt Mullenweg broke monumental news that WordPress now manages 25 percent of the Internet. Seventy-Five to Go https://t.co/h1dANXtQLs — Matt Mullenweg (@photomatt) November 8, 2015 W3Tech broke down the Internet by popular content management systems, and WordPress far exceeded number two on the list, Joomla, at 2.8 percent. The site also shows WordPress as the fastest growing content management system since Oct. 2015. WordPress appears to be growing significantly and steadily since 2011. In fact, it has grown 1.7 percent since Jan., which is substantial compared to the competition. Mullenweg mentioned in his blog post that these […]

RESTful WP-CLI Kickstarter Fully Funded In 12 Hours
Daniel Bachhuber’s Kickstarter went live only two days ago and already it is more than fully funded. Bachhuber, who maintains WP-CLI, says he’s still in shock at just how quickly the project surpassed its $17,500 goal. According to the Kickstarter page, “WP-CLI and the WP REST API offer CRUD interfaces to WordPress, and the functional components for WP-CLI’s internals are duplicated by WP REST API endpoints. By using WP REST API endpoints to power WP-CLI, we can remove a lot of code from WP-CLI.” This means that developers can push and pull posts and other REST API data with only a […]
