Poster: An Elegant Editor for iOS

If you know me at all then you know I’m pretty obsessed with trying out new applications and anything that’ll make my publishing life easier. In fact, I’m willing to try out anything just to see if I can eek out a bit more performance and effectiveness in the limited amount of time that I’ve got.

This past year has been an interesting year with WordPress native applications – there hasn’t really been a clear winner in my book and nothing that has “stuck” long enough for me to say, with dogmatism, this is the best WordPress native editor around. This means there is ample room for innovation and even better implementations.

But one that has fascinated me for some time is Poster – it’s not perfect (far from it) and there are some inherit limitations, but it focuses on a few things that have me hooked and it’s currently on sale for the holiday for $2.99 (which is why I’m blogging about it).

It’s an elegant editor that focuses on your writing needs first really highlighting your canvas front and center.

It comes with a number of features, of course, with full integration with your WordPress blog. Here are some highlights:

1. Dropbox Integration – Create and publish new posts quickly by selecting text or HTML documents from your Dropbox account.
2. Open In… Support – Open text or HTML documents from other apps and publish directly to any of your blogs.
3. Markdown Support – Quickly preview Markdown formatted posts and automatically convert Markdown to HTML when publishing to your blog.
4. Post from Clipboard – Easily post content from other apps or the web by creating a new post from the contents on your clipboard.
5. Image Uploads – Upload images directly to your blog and easily add them to your posts
6. TextExpander Integration – Supports TextExpander Touch snippits.
7. Sharing – Share published posts by Twitter or email, or view posts in Safari.
8. Multiple Blogs – Add up to 5 different blogs and easily switch between accounts.

I’ve been using it off and on for the past few months and the fact that it hasn’t been completely deleted from both my iPad and iPhone are telling.

Don’t be fooled though – if you’re looking for a radically different experience from, say, your safari browser experience then you won’t be floored, but you won’t miss all that admin backend junk that you don’t want to see when you’re drafting your next blog post.

Get it now and try it out on the cheap if you’d like – perhaps it’ll motivate you to blog even more in 2013.
