The new Gutenberg Editor, which is slated for inclusion in WordPress 5.0, aims to dramatically improve the editor experience in WordPress by adding easy-to-use, dynamic content blocks. While beautiful, and definitely something I could see myself creating content in, I worry about what the new editor could mean for the future of WordPress. WordPress as a Content Management System (CMS) originated as a blogging platform but has grown far beyond that, today dominating 28 percent of the entire internet. In a post sharing his first experience with the Gutenberg Editor, Chris Lema asks an important question: “Didn’t we want to […]
WordPress Theme Safety – How to Ensure the Theme You Are Using is Secure
Two of the biggest reasons for WordPress’ success is how easy it is to customize and that there are so many free ways to do so. The WordPress directory is full of literally thousands of free themes and plugins and can change the design and functionality of your site in seconds. In addition to that, we have masses of premium plugins and other commercial offerings from high-quality WordPress companies. As a consequence, anyone looking to enhance their site is just a Google query away from doing so. Enter “free WordPress themes” and you are sure to find something for your […]
WordCamp Europe 2017: “WordPress Speaks All Languages”
WordCamp Europe took place over the weekend in Paris, France. The global conference, which brought together 1,900 developers, designers, professionals and enthusiasts from 79 different countries all over the world, sheds light on the globalization of WordPress and highlights the diversity of the community. Several of the talks offered advice on how to be successful (and impactful) within an increasingly global online community. Online community basics Polyglots team lead Petya Raykovska kicked off […]

However, if your goal was to build a site for your business, this was the way to go. WordPress, on the other […]
WPCampus Helps Connect WordPress and Higher Education
Cherry never expected to find herself working in higher education. The first job she got as a graphic designer right after graduating was at a college in Mississippi. It wasn’t long before she realized that’s where she always wanted to be. “Whether it’s with students or fellow faculty/staff, there’s always an opportunity for collaboration and education. And your purpose is so fulfilling. No matter your role, you’re a part of, and investing in, the well-being and future of others,” Cherry told Torque. When she began her first job after college with the University of Alabama in 2011, WordPress was the CMS […]
