Remember MySpace? Yeah, that website. It was the hot shiz for musicians and artists back in the day. One of the best decisions I ever made was turning down an offer from Fox Interactive Media to oversee product at MySpace. The choice was actually easy as they wanted me to move to LA and my wife has never been a fan – so we stayed in Austin, TX which was a much better choice.
The point of that is to say that MySpace was the place for music artists and I hope that WordPress can take that charge and be so much better – it already looks like its coming together nicely as more and more are flocking to WordPress.com and their artist solutions, which include neat features like music players, tour dates, music and video embeds, and more.
Big names like Snoop Lion (I know him as Snoop Dogg…), Xzibit, and more are already using the service:
But it’s not just the plugins or add-ons that are attracting more artists and musicians alike, there are premium themes like Soundcheck that are looking sweet!
This theme was developed specifically with bands in mind featuring custom audio players, upcoming gigs, page templates, artist/track management, and more. Why get started with anything else?
Do you have a band or know someone that could use something like this? Make sure they know about it!
