Or, at least that’s the proposal.
You see, the number of WordCamps are growing every single year and we’re very excited about that but the truth is that starting, launching, and executing a successful WordCamp can be a very daunting task, especially for first-time event planners.
I know this for a fact since my wife has planned a number of events (that is a stressful period and time when she’s “right” in the middle of it) and I’m also helping to plan the WordCamp here in Atlanta, GA (and it’s a challenge!).
But wouldn’t it be neat if there was a more direct way for new organizers to get the counsel, help, and mentorship they need to pull it off right and with excellence? That’s what Heather Acton and the Events team at WordPress is looking to do – to create a new mentorship program that would assist in all of these things and more.
Their core objectives for this year are:
- Setting up the new organizer mentorship program itself, including establishing the system to match mentors with mentees.
- Pulling together resources, rules, and expectations for the mentors in the program.
If you have experience being a mentor or have experience with mentorship programs then they would love to see you contribute and help provide some insight as to the best way to go about creating this new initiative.
There’s no reason why we can’t blow past the projected number of WordCamps in 2013 and create even more buzz and value for places all around the world. Your contribution to the mentorship program could be just that thing.
Let’s do this!
