That is what was apparently spent on $40 theme in what appears to be a massive misuse of government funds.
The website, Free State Online (having some issues being pulled up – must be getting hit hard with load times), was the provincial government that spent nearly $15MM (R140MM) on it’s newly designed website.
The contract, a 3-year deal signed 2 years ago. It is argued that it wasn’t $140MM but rather $40M, but that’s still over $4 million dollars for a website.
Whatever it may be the margin for the contractor is still a little “high”:

Of course, Hacker News has an epic thread about it and some people are even calling for HNer’s to band together to stop government corruption. It would be neat to see this happen but I doubt the thread will generate that type of energy.
It’s just sad to see so much money “wasted” and to see some individuals and businesses get totally gamed while others profit like true gangsters.
