When I was down in Atlanta for WordCamp back in March, while we were gathering to eat some Yum Diggity at the VIP after party, John shared a few words with everyone that have stuck with me. He said something along these lines:
Everyone in this room is here because of an open source piece of software. We’re able to share our stories, build our businesses and feed our families because of it. Think about that for a second, how awesome is that!?
It is pretty remarkable, if you sit and think about that for a few minutes. An open source piece of software brought people from all over the country into an office in downtown Atlanta after bringing even more people to a two day conference. All the people there knew that WordPress could change their lives.
And I don’t say ‘change their lives’ loosely either.
Countless people’s lives have actually changed for the better because of WordPress. It has given them the opportunity to change careers, to launch new businesses, to reach audiences across the world, and even to publish their own personal blogs. And it’s free! It’s open to anyone, it’s not an exclusive club; community is huge around WordPress.
I for one am really excited about what WordPress is allowing me to do in my life. I’ve been a blogger for a little over 2 years, but I’m just recently beginning to understand what WordPress can really do. I’m also discovering the great community around WordPress. I’ve already made great connections and friendships with people because of WordPress. And It gives me an outlet to do what I love most and that’s to write.
Who knew a piece of open source software could change my perspective on what I can do with my life in such a short amount of time.
Have you taken time recently to think about what opportunities WordPress has allowed you to take advantage of? What connections have you made in the WordPress community? How has WordPress has changed your life?
If you haven’t done so recently, I’d encourage you to spend some time today and genuinely think about this.
