So the big news yesterday was that an entire community found itself collectively crying (some on the inside, some very vocally) that Adobe Fireworks would see the final writing on the wall, signed, sealed, and delivered, and that the continuing life of the storied application would be no more:
Due to this overlap and as well as our change in our product development focus, we have decided not to update Fireworks to CC and instead will focus on developing new tools to meet our customers needs.
For some, this is like a knife in the heart as they’ve built their entire career around this application. I would imagine that there are some here in this community, designers and developers alike (and even hobbyist/tinkerer designers like me) who use Fireworks.
As one blogger wrote in his case for Fireworks over Photoshop:
I believe that by using Fireworks I save time every day that I would be otherwise wasting if I used the Photoshop/Illustrator combo. Not to mention the $1000 saved on purchase price.
So where do you stand with it? Did you die a little when you heard the news and are you stressing on having to jump-ship and learn a new application (you can still use Fireworks, of course if you want.)?
Love to hear your thoughts.
Oh, and by the way, in the spirit of Open Source, there’s a petition going around to make Fireworks open source!
