In the WordPress space, educational resources are relatively new; but they are swiftly becoming less sparse. Sites like Lynda.com, Treehouse, WPBeginner, and Tuts+, to name a few, offer WordPress workshops, tutorials, and how-to articles. The sphere has been steadily growing and evolving to offer a variety of conveniences for all levels of WordPress developers and designers. Whether you’re aspiring, intermediate, or seasoned, there is probably a useful online educational option for you. It’s just a matter of finding the right one!
Today we’ll focus on the recently released WordPress Developer Launchpad Bundle being offered by Tuts+. Although there are many online workshops to choose from, like the ones listed above, this is the first WordPress-specific “bundle.” Japheth Thomson, editor of WpTuts+, was kind enough to chat with us about this new release, which took place on February 13. So I asked him a few questions to figure out what makes this particular option unique.
Why a “Bundle”?
According to Japh, “it’s all about making Tuts+ courses available in ways that suit people better.” In the past, Tuts+ has offered a subscription cost, and, in more recent times, courses available on an individual basis at $15 per course. The bundle provides easy access to learn the fundamentals necessary to start as a WordPress developer at the discounted cost of $49.
What Will You Learn?
The bundle is about providing enough training so you can successfully develop plugins and themes. For example, “one of the courses takes you through the full process from PSD to HTML to WordPress theme with a particular example project,” said Japh. Across 6 courses, over 32 hours of video instruction, the bundle will walk you through WordPress fundamentals, providing extensive insight into HTML, PHP, and JavaScript.
Who is it Geared Toward?
This set of courses is geared towards the novice WordPress user seeking to learn the fundamentals of site development. Japh indicated that the user “should be familiar with WordPress as an end-user and ideally have some technical know-how, but that’s about it.” So even if you don’t aspire to build a plugin or theme, the bundle can still provide you with the language necessary to communicate with WordPress developers and designers.
Conclusion
The folks at CyberChimp reviewed the course bundle, stating:
If you’re looking to jump into the code and learn how WordPress works under the hood, there’s a course at Tuts+ just for you—WordPress Developer Launchpad.
This is the first-ever “bundle” that Tuts+ has released, however, it won’t be the last. Japh said “this is the first bundle and we’re seeing a great response so far, so stay tuned for more like this.”
Anyone tried the bundle? What are your favorite WordPress education resources?
