Last April, the Internet community prepared for Google’s Mobilegeddon, an algorithm created to target mobile searches. Starting this May, the search engine is rolling out an update to mobile search results.
According to Google’s announcement, “[The update] increases the effect of the ranking signal to help our users find even more pages that are relevant and mobile-friendly.”
What does this mean for WordPress? If your site is already mobile-friendly, you are in luck. It will be easier to find and access your website.
If you don’t think you are already mobile-friendly, now is the time to make any necessary changes. There are few quick fixes you can make, all of which have been outlined in our complete guide. Begin by searching for your site on a phone or tablet and see if it bears the mobile-friendly label. If it does, you are ready to go.
If you are having a problem finding that label, there are other ways to test your site. The first is provided by Google. Just paste your site into Google’s analyzer, then it will offer possible ways to fix it. These solutions aren’t specific to WordPress websites, so you might want to try out one of these plugins or follow these steps.
Overall the Mobilegeddon update will have less impact than the initial rollout last year, but your site should be optimized for mobile anyway. If it isn’t, you’re giving up potential customers and readers. It only takes a few steps to optimize your site, so why not take the time?
What have you done to optimize your site for mobile? Do you think it’s necessary? Answer in the comments below.
