Modern Tribe announced today it is acquiring GigPress, a plugin for musicians and performers. Created by Derek Hogue of Amphibian Design nine years ago, GigPress manages live performances on WordPress.
“I’m still kind of astounded at how many people use it, considering it was a thing that grew out of my own needs as a developer. There’s now more than 20,000 active installs, which blows me away,” said Hogue. “For several years, I’ve just been keeping up with maintenance and bug fixes. I’m excited to pass it on to a new home where it will get the care it deserves.”
Now the app will have the support of the Modern Tribe team. So far, no major changes have been made to the plugin, though Modern Tribe does have plans for feature implementations in the future.
“We want all 20,000+ current GigPress users to know that we understand their unique event management needs,” said partner at Modern Tribe, Shane Perlman. “Adding GigPress to the Modern Tribe family ensures the plugin has a home with people who respect the community and value the long-term potential of its development.”
GigPress is also teaming up with another Modern Tribe owned plugin, The Events Calendar. Musicians can now add show listings to a calendar. You can then sell tickets directly form your site, which makes it easier for people to attend your shows.
If you are a GigPress user and lover, you will be notified of any future changes to the plugin.
