Love WordPress News, this is Doc Pop’s News Drop!
Writing app update notes is a thankless job.
I’ve worked with many mobile app developers, mostly for iOS apps, I can tell you it’s not always easy to think of things to say when publishing a new update. Which is why most developers simply write things like “squashed some bugs, improved some features.”
Most users don’t even read these notes, but I always do, which is why I’ve always been happy to read the update notes for each release of the WordPress app. Whoever is writing these notes have been crushing it for the past few years with really upbeat and imaginative descriptions such as, and this is a quote “Photos and videos in your site’s media library are always available to the editor. They used to run away and hide, muttering something about ‘media solidarity’ if the app didn’t have permission to access media on your device.”
Another gem from last November. “As much as we love emoji, occasionally seeing a giant smiley staring at us in a featured image was getting kinda creepy. Giant emoji has been served a ceas-and-desist order as far as featured imagees are concerned.
And from February of last year “The awesome image size settings were made even more awesome courtesy of the removal of unawesome bugs. It is now legen- wait for it….- daryly awesome.”
So kudos to you, people who write great app update notes. You are the unsung heroes of the app store and deserving of great recognition for your work.
That’s it for this week’s News Drop, be sure to follow @thetorquemag on twitter and share your pick for which apps or plugin developers write the best app updates!
Oh speaking of updates, there’s a brand new WordPress update on the app store right now! Woohoo! Here’s the full update text with the version 6.6 of the WordPress app. “Squashed bugs… cleaned up the mess.”
Really?
I guess they can’t all be winners.
