Doc’s WordPress News Drop is a weekly report on the most pressing WordPress news. When the news drops, I will pick it up and deliver it right to you.
We’ve just wrapped up another WordCamp and Doc Pop has a quick recap for you here. Be sure to also catch all of our video interviews from WordCamp US 2016 here.
Love WordCamps, but couldn’t make it to Philly? This is Doc Pop’s News Drop.
We are in Phladelphia the WordCamp US 2016.
This year’s event had nearly 1,900 attendees, with nearly that many watching on livestream.
We’ve posted 10 video interviews with fascinating attendees, some were first timers, others were speakers. I highly recomend checking them out, especially the talk with Joost de Valk talk on seo and Erica Varlese who taught some simple yoga exercises for “desk jockeys”.
The conference just ended with Matt Mullenweg’s annual State Of The Word address, were we learned several fascinating facts,
like 4 percent of WordPress sites have updated to PHP 7, 28 percent of sites are running JavaScript and 11.5 percent are on HTTPS. Mullenweg said he would love to see all of those number increase by next year and lead to a faster and safer web for everyone.
We also got a great preview of the new 2017 theme, which is one of the first default themes focused on businesses, which could indicate a trend in WordPress moving away from a “blogging platform” and more towards enterprise and ecommerce. After all, every business still needs a website.
Helen Hou-Sandí also took the stage to talk about WordPress 4.7, the newest core update, which goes live this Tuesday! This update includes the long hyped REST api content endpoints, which is exciting news.
That’s it for this week’s Newsdrop, be sure to watch all of our WordCamp US videos and we’ll see you next week.
