Doc’s WordPress News Drop is a weekly report on the most pressing WordPress news. When the news drops, I will pick it up and deliver it right to you.
This week we talk about Blog Helper, a cool Alexa app by Christopher Finke that allows you to interact with your WordPress site via voice commands.
Love WordPress news, but hate reading? This is Doc Pop’s News Drop!
Ever since it’s release, people have been creating weird and wonderful apps for Amazon’s Alexa device.
But one of the newest Alexa apps might be of particular interest to WordPressers.
Christopher Finke, an Automattic employee and creator of awesome iOS apps, has recently released a new Alexa Skill called Blog Helper, which allows you to interact with your WordPress blog via voice commands.
This Alexa app, or “skill” as I believe they say in Alexa-ville, uses the WordPress REST API to allow you to check notifications, moderate comments, and even save new drafts.
I reached out to Chris to see what the future may hold for Blog Helper and he says he’s interested in integrating other WordPress core or Jetpack functions such as getting stats, installing updates, or better composition tools such as taking dicatation.
Blog Helper is available for free on the Amazon and is open source too. It’s been out since December, so I wanted to give a shout out to Sarah at WP Tavern for blogging about it this week.
That’s it for this week’s News Drop, remember to visit Plugin Madness.com this week to vote for the two finalists in Torque’s Plugin Madness competition.
