Google Glass is one of the trendiest technologies out there right now, but it’s hard to tell who it’s actually useful for. One group that stands out is publishers and journalists who can use Glass to chronicle their stories through rich, on-the-fly media experiences. And as the world’s largest publishing platform, it was only a matter of time before WordPress and Google Glass hooked up. Now, thanks to Weber Shandwick, that time has come. wpForGlass is the first plugin that allows you to post to your WordPress blog from Google Glass. The workflow for wpForGlass is fairly simple and it’s […]
Targeted Ads Without Retargeting
It’s Like Magic (But Not) Even if you’ve never heard of retargeting when it comes to online ads, it’s likely that you’ve still experienced it. Here’s how it works. A person visits your site. They browse around and check out some of your products. Your site drops a little cookie in their browser that tells other sites they’ve been to your site. Now they visit another site—one that has ads on their site. And these ads are delivered by a retargeting service. Including an ad for your site. So now that visitor is on another site, but since they’ve been […]
WordSesh 2 Underway
WordSesh 2 is well underway, with over 17 and a half hours already under its belt. WordPressers have been tuning in from all over the world for 24 straight hours of WordPress immersion (although to be perfectly honest, some of us did take sleep breaks). Here are some of the highlights so far. The DradSesh The DradCast hosts Brad Williams and Dre Armeda kicked it off in style, along with WordSesh 2 organizer Scott Basgaard. The WordSesh 2 Rap debuted, and we think it was even better than the first WordSesh rap. More than 100 people joined the the chatroom, and Scott announced […]

The Torque team ducked out of our workspace for a bit yesterday to attend Telx’s MarketplaceLIVE, a cloud computing conference boasting the tagline “Enhancing Connectivity Through Insight.” With over 600 registered attendees, the event was put on by leading interconnection and data center provider Telx and held at the beautiful Nob Hill Masonic Center. Dozens of exhibitors from all corners of the cloud computing ecosystem came out to share their visions and interact with their community. The first booth we walked up to was that of security company Black Lotus, which had the most striking design (white on black instead of […]
Toys, Books, and Other Copyright Boondoggles
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably saw last week’s copyright battle between GoldieBlox—a toy company founded to inspire girls to go into engineering and sciences—and the surviving two members of the Beastie Boys. The trouble began with a GoldieBlox promo video that parodied the 1987 Beastie Boys song “Girls”—which went on to receive over 8 million hits on YouTube. There was a two-and-fro between GoldieBlox and lawyers for the Beastie Boys (who are famous for not allowing use of their work in commercials, especially since deceased band member Adam Yauch forbade it in his will). GoldieBlox decided to take the […]
