Ever bought a stationary bike the entire family was ecstatic about using, only to see it turn into an expensive clothes rack? Then a few years later you finally decide to get serious about it and start spinning? In WordPress Universe, post formats are like that bike. The main problem with post formats is that they make theme developers do a lot of guess work. If you search Post formats Codex page, you’ll find words could and may thirteen times (combined), should is there only once, not a perfect implementation of Decisions not Options principle. The whole idea behind post formats was to create a […]
Getting Started with Theme Design with Child Themes
According to Wikipedia.org, Cascading Style Sheets (aka CSS) has been around since December of 1996, so a whole lot of people know the basics of web design using CSS. WordPress was introduced in May of 2003, so almost as many people have heard of it, but a lot of people I talk to think it’s only a blog platform, so they dismiss it without learning about its power. His contributions are always thoroughly researched, with links to related tickets and changesets often going back to a previous decade. […]

Hundreds of WordPress-loving (or -curious) folks sat in on expert presentations, got help at the Rockstar Bar, shared a meal, and partied together. Friendships were forged, connections were made, WordPress installations were secured—more happened than one fella can recount. In my intro post, I covered the basic structure of each day, and then liveblogged the entire weekend, capturing snippets that caught my attention. Aside from the usual recap posts about the weekend, some other great items to check out are the official photographer’s initial shots (in which I’m caught drinking coffee and tweeting), […]

How’s everyone’s Tuesday? If it’s your first day back after the long weekend, I hope you had a productive one and got back into the groove. I unfortunately have not been able to, due to a sinus infection. Ugh. What’s the cure? Some newly pressed WordPress plugins. That’s what. I’ve got a fever. And the only prescription is more plugins. Seeing this list of new plugins brings a smile and makes me feel a bit better. How about you? Take a look at the list and let me know:
