It’s not a question of how much we love WordPress because we’re fanatics. But just because our love is comprehensive and infinite doesn’t mean that WordPress is equally applicable everywhere. Or is it? Since I poke fun at my colleagues often I feel somewhat obligated (very rarely) to self-deprecate so that harmony can continue to exist among us, so today I’ve dug up a very old video where I show how universal WordPress application really is:
A Better Code Reference Coming Soon?
Siobhan, who recently announced that she’s moving to full-time work with Audrey Capital, has shared some new screens and wireframes of a proposed new look for a better reference for WordPress code. They’ve made some great headway so far but are looking for more community feedback – this is especially important because for many of us the references available to us like the Codex are invaluable to our continued development and work. She’s already created a number of questions about navigation elements, other development resources, content options, and more. Here are some of the existing wires as they stand today […]
How to Bribe WP Daily and Get a Killer Blog Post Out of It
And Pagely will show you how. We recently got an interesting care package from them and we weren’t quite sure what to expect. If it was something dangerous I at least wanted to capture it on film so as to provide proof of the source. Fortunately it was anything but dangerous – except for that mustache that I tried to get Chris to wear. Darn it – he almost did. Pagely (which is sporting a sweet new homepage look) has successfully bribed us to take images and a video of their company and products thus spawning a blog post. Those guys know how to win.
Tracking Errors with Airbrake, Errbit
When you’re developing apps for yourself you may not necessarily care as much about the errors that are created at run-time, especially if it’s to solve a personal productivity issue or challenge. For example, there are a few Chrome and Firefox browser scripts that I’ve created that are terribly coded and that would most likely break in any other environment other than my own but I don’t really care to take the time to refine these small collections of code because I’m not releasing them publicly and definitely not selling them. But if you’re a WordPress-powered business that are developing […]
Locu Loves Some Automattic, Restaurants
It seems that restaurants are getting a ton of love this year with a bunch of restaurant-related WordPress businesses have cropped up as well as seeing WordPress.com open up it’s own vertical. It’s getting even better now with a native integration between Locu, a menu system for users and site owners, and WordPress.com powered sites. Embedding a Locu shortcode is as easy as a few clicks and their Locu-powered Menu will automatically appear on their site. I can imagine that this will be a boon for restaurant owners and site managers who are trying to maximize the limited amount of time […]
Codecademy Open Up PHP Course
It’s no secret that I am a fan of Codeacademy.com As someone who is still learning to code and at a very basic level their “gamification” of the process of learn to code is great approach that uses proven psychology to motivate even the busiest people to learn. Although Codeacademy has had courses for HTML, CSS, JQuery, Javascript, Python and Ruby for a while, it has just opened up courses in PHP, the heart of WordPress.
Behind the Scenes: Dragonforce Coding with Tom
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leWQYAZwTgU&feature=youtu.be Be prepared for a little Dragonforce coding with Tom McFarlin. He’s seriously-serious about his serious coding.
Podling – Like P2 But Faster Setup, Lower Friction
Because we work in a virtual environment with my team at times (as well as our extended team) we use a social application called SocialCast that helps us facilitate our internal communication needs. We once used Yammer but found that to be a complete failure for more than one reason. But I’ll admit, we did try the P2 Theme in hopes that we could use yet another WordPress-powered solution for our business. It didn’t pan out to be something that was as robust as we needed and we didn’t want to take the time to develop additional features that would work for us – […]
Kriesi Sells Over $2MM on ThemeForest
It’s hard to imagine but it’s true – Kriesi, one of the top theme providers at ThemeForest has crossed the $2MM in sales figure to become the first of his kind. He first passed the $1MM mark just a few months more than a year ago – so he’s scaling fast! Unbelievably fast to be sure. He’s moved on from being a one-man show to now building a team: There has been a little more change on the business side of things. My team and I have made some important steps from being a one-man show to growing into a […]
Worpit – Another Multiple Manage Solution?
Every single week it seems that I encounter even more solutions that help bloggers and WordPress site owners manage their sites. Today’s new player is Worpit, another notification and updating system that you might find useful. This is very much a similar product like ManageWP and WPRemote. What you might find here though that’s a nice addition are the opportunities to optimize your database and backups to leverage, something that WPRemote doesn’t have for example. Take a look at these screens:
