With fall right around the corner here in North America (I know it feels way too soon), it seems that WordCamp season kicks into high gear. This year is no exception—with over 20 WordCamps currently scheduled to happen between the end of August and the beginning of December. And with all those WordCamps, comes lots of knowledge, confusion, and sometimes frustration for a first time attendee. That alone could cause people to miss out on a great opportunity to learn, network, meet new people, and even build new business relationships. But I am in a unique position to give you a […]

Introducing Some Lesser-Known WordPress Clubs
One of the major benefits of WordPress is the ability to use themes and plugins to add design and functionality to our website. This is a benefit which most of us would otherwise be unable to create ourselves. Now, in some cases the free options available work fine – but they can be hit or miss. Going premium is the most reliable way to find themes with the best designs, quality, and functionality. Unfortunately, this can be expensive. One of the most cost-effective ways to get access to premium WordPress themes and plugins is to join what’s known as a WordPress club. By joining a WordPress […]

If there’s one thing I love as much as writing blog posts, it’s reading them. And learning about a topic like WordPress is conveyed much more efficiently on a blog rather than on something like a textbook. The main things I look for in blog are: a blogger (s) who knows what they’re talking about, consistent posting frequency, and (above all) high-quality content and depth. As these platforms grow in complexity so do various ways of gaming them in ways that adversely affect consumers, publishers, and advertisers. There are lots of ways of gaming the system, which, though legal, still raises ethical issues. AdWords and advertising networks play different roles in helping to drive traffic and monetize blogs. Small Security Vulnerability in Disqus WordPress Plugin
As some of you may have heard, a number of CSRF (Cross-site Request Forgery) vulnerabilities were discovered in the Disqus plugin for WordPress by Nik Cubrilovic not too long ago. The biggest of these issues was unfiltered, potentially harmful data being passed straight to the database without proper sanitization. Though this was being filtered on output, Disqus’s debug mode could potentially be used to extract this raw data and inject harmful code. There were also some issues with nonce checks on various POST requests and a vulnerability in the plugin’s upgrade script. Luckily, the Disqus team moved very quickly to […]
7 Effective Tooltip Plugins for WordPress
To find more great plugins, check out Torque’s free eBook, The Ultimate Guide to WordPress Plugins. Download it here.
