Planning For WCUS 2017 Underway, Applications For Host City Now Open
Planning for WordCamp US 2017 has commenced. Applications for the WCUS 2017 and 2018 host city are now open! Applicants are asked to provide names and contacts for organizing teams as well as proposed venue information and average hotel and flights costs. The survey also requires details on contributor day, including venue and wifi information. You can read the full list of requirements here. WordPress 4.4.1 Security And Maintenance Release Now Available
WordPress 4.4.1 shipped today. The announcement says that Crtc4L reported that anything 4.4 or older could be “affected by a cross-site scripting vulnerability that could allow a site to be compromised.” Users are advised to update as soon as possible. WordPress 4.4.1 addresses issues found in older versions of OpenSSL and includes updated emoji support. The update fixes 52 bugs discovered in WordPress 4.4. DesktopServer 3.8.1 Now Available
DesktopServer version, 3.8.1 is now available for download. The update addresses bugs found in DesktopServer’s last major update 3.8, which was released earlier this year. 3.8.1 fixes redo log errors on large imports, phpMyAdmin import issues, visual compressor issues debug nesting level, and more. On top of the bug fixes, the update also includes the new Airplane Mode plugin, Mailbox viewer, Bypass Login plugin, and WordPress 4.4. A Day of REST, the first ever WordPress REST API conference, will be held on Jan. 28, at Conway Hall in London. The speaker line-up for the event has been confirmed. Sessions will focus on different uses of the WP REST API and will take an in-depth look at several real-life applications. Automattic Could Go Public In 2016, Report Says
Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com, is among 36 “unicorns” that could go public in 2016, CB Insights said in a report released yesterday. The 2016 Tech IPO Pipeline states there are more than 80 private tech companies in the U.S. currently valued at $1 billion or more, and notes that Automattic is among the 36 companies with the greatest momentum. Automattic joined the billion-dollar club in 2014 when it raised $160 million in Series C Funding, which raised its valuation to $1.16 billion.
